Workshop Offerings

Muckware Ceramics offers both Wheel throwing and Hand building classes. Join Grace from Muckware for a private pottery class in the Byron Bay Hinterland. Tailored workshops to suit your skill level, whether you're new to clay or looking to build on your skills, this one-on-one session is a personalised class to suit your ambitions and love of clay.

Enjoy full use of the studio while you immerse yourself in 2 hours of hands-on ceramic practice. No experience is needed. Come with a project in mind, Pinterest mood board or simply arrive on the day and see what you create. Great for individuals or pairs.

  • $350 1 person

    $220 per person for 2 people

  • Enjoy full use of the studio while you immerse yourself in 2 hours of hands-on ceramic practice. No experience is needed. Come with a project in mind, Pinterest mood board or simply arrive on the day and see what you create

    All tools, aprons, clay, glaze, moulds are supplied. 

    All work will be finished and fired within 3-4 weeks. Pick up or shipping (additional charge) will be arranged.

  • Wheel throwing - Beginners will learn to create simple cup and bowl forms. Intermediate and practiced potters can explore advanced shapes like ceramic plates or taller pieces. Grace will handle trimming and glazing. 3-4 pieces per person.

    Hand building workshop - You can focus on one large ceramic art piece or create 3 to 5 smaller works. You’ll learn a mix of pinch pot, coiling, and slab-building techniques used in handmade pottery.

    You will also get to choose from Muckware’s signature glazes to have your work finished in.

    All work will be finished and fired within 3-4 weeks. Pick up or shipping (additional charge) will be arranged.

  • Muckware’s workshops are designed to be tailored to your specific skill level and goals. Smaller private classes allow you to work on specific projects or techniques and get one on one tuition.

  • Hand building - Techniques like slab building and coiling allow for the creation of larger shapes like salad bowls, platters and vases. If you have a more complex design in mind or wish to create a larger piece - Hand building is the workshop for you!

    Wheel throwing - Immersing yourself in wheel throwing practice. Beginners will learn to create 3-4 simple cup and bowl forms. Intermediate and practiced potters can explore advanced shapes like ceramic plates or taller pieces.

Wheel Throwing

If you are a beginner on the wheel, you will create 3-4 small bowl or cup shapes. I will give you the option of turning one into a mug, where I will attach a handle in the trimming stage. If you have some experience on the wheel, we can work at your level by increasing the clay quantity and focusing on more advance techniques like plates and taller pieces.

Hand Building

Using slab building techniques and the moulds provided, students are able to create hand formed plates and bowls like the image above. Other techniques include coil building and pinch pots for crating more sculptural or vase shapes. The most appropriate techniques will be discussed depending on the project in mind.
